For AIM and MAIN listed companies, corporate reporting is a compliance requirement. It's also one of the most powerful tools available for building investor confidence and influencing market perception. We worked with Ceres Power, a leading fuel cell technology company listed on AIM (prior to 2023), to transform their ESG and Sustainability report from a functional document into a compelling investor communication that reflected the quality and ambition of the business behind it.

For a listed business operating in a sector where credibility and transparency are under constant scrutiny, the quality of corporate reporting carries real commercial weight. Ceres Power's existing ESG report wasn't doing enough to communicate their commitment to sustainability with the clarity and authority that investors, analysts, and partners expected. In a market where ESG credentials increasingly influence investment decisions, an underperforming report risked undermining shareholder confidence and limiting their ability to attract the capital needed to grow.

We approached the project as a strategic communications challenge as much as a design one. The first priority was to take complex environmental, social, and governance data and restructure it into a narrative that was easy to navigate and engaging without stripping out the substance that investors and analysts need. Throughout design, the team focused on intuitive layouts, considered visual hierarchy, and purposeful use of imagery and data visualisation to guide readers through the report.

For AIM listed companies, the ability to demonstrate governance and accountability clearly and consistently directly affects how the business is perceived in the market. The redesigned report gave Ceres Power a platform to communicate that transparency with authority, aligning their external reporting with the quality and professionalism of the business itself.

The result was a fundamental shift in how Ceres Power communicated with investors, analysts, and their people. It laid the foundation for future reporting cycles and positioned the business as a modern, responsible, and forward-thinking leader in their sector.

FAQs.

ESG-focused investors are increasingly screening businesses on the quality and transparency of their sustainability reporting before making decisions. For AIM listed companies, where scrutiny is high and differentiation matters, a poorly presented report can undermine confidence in an otherwise strong business. A well-designed ESG report signals professionalism and governance, giving investors the reassurance they need to commit.

The right time is before the report becomes a liability rather than an asset, which for most AIM listed businesses means sooner than they think. If your reporting doesn't reflect the quality of your business, or if you're struggling to communicate complex ESG data that resonates with investors and analysts, as well as potential talent, then you should prioritise your ESG design. First impressions in the investment community and the talent market are hard to reverse.
